Boone is one of the only spots in the southeast that you can enjoy ice skating in the winter, in an outdoor ice skating arena. The High Country is home to several Boone ski resorts that offer ice skating. App Ski Mountain, convenient to Blowing Rock, and our bed and breakfast in Boone NC features an enormous ice skating rink at the base of their resort. Appalachian Ski Mountain features the only ice skating rink in Boone that is Zamboni maintained. You can enjoy ice skating with the ski slopes and lights in the background. Day and night skating are available 7 nights a week, with three session times per day: Noon – 2pm, 2:30pm – 4:30pm, 7pm – 9pm. On New Year’s Eve you can also go Moonlight, Midnight ice skating in Boone. The cost is just $15 per skater at App Ski Mtn and that includes ice skate rentals. Non-skaters love the rinkside bonfire that they can sit by and watch their loved ones skating.
Ski Beech is the other ski resort in the High Country area that offers ice skating near Boone. The resort is located in a town that is known for being the highest elevated incorporated town located East of the Mississippi River. The resort features amazing views and the ice skating rink is no different. It is a 7,000 square foot rink located at the center of the Beech Tree Village. Children under 4 skate free with a paying adult. The cost is just $15 for a two hour session and it includes a skate rental as well. Times for skating at Beech Mountain Resort are as follows; Monday – Thursday you can skate from 12-8 (Two hour sessions), Friday 12 – 9:30 and then Saturday, Sunday, Presidents Day, and MLK Day Session Times you can skate between 9:30 am and 9:30 pm.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is probably the closest resort to hotels Boone NC and Lovill House Inn, however the drive up to Beech Mountain is one of the most beautiful drives in the Blue Ridge, and the views are out of this world.
