Every so often, we here at Lovill House Inn, the comfiest Boone and Blowing Rock bed and breakfast, just need a “hermit weekend.” We like to spend the entire weekend in, cuddling under blankets with mugs of tea, books, or our favorite movie. This resets our brain and allows us to pamper ourselves. During the summer this gets difficult. The weather is pretty and warm and town is bustling, it’s hard to stay put and not join the party. With winter here, however, we have primed our Inn for the perfect weekend in with your honey. Here are some book suggestions to make your “hermit weekend” a little more relaxing.
We really enjoy reading books to escape from the life of outside into another world. Our favorite novel for a chilly snowy day is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. With time traveling, old world Scotland, and diverse characters, this novel takes you back in time to another world. Outlander is the first book in this series, so one you read one, you have others for future “hermit weekends.”
If you’re not a fan of fantasy novels, another one of our favorites is The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America by Erik Larson. This book is clever and captivating; a story about the 1893 World’s Fair and the serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. Based on true events, this nail-biting story will keep you glued to the book all weekend.
If neither of our recommendations have fit your fancy, you could also try the www.goodreads.com website. The site allows you to join with a free membership and recommends books for you based off other books you like. It’s come in handy for several of our weekends in.
We hope that you visit us soon for a long, relaxing “hermit weekend’ spend cuddled in our comfy beds. We guarantee we will become your go to Boone and Blowing Rock Bed and Breakfast. Call us to make a reservation today.
