The Beech Mountain Mile High Kite Festival – September 3-4, 2016
This fun annual Labor Day weekend event takes place in the highest locale in the High Country, atop Beech Mountain. This event features vendors, music, contests and lots of cool kite flying.
Autumn at Oz Festival Beech Mountain – Dates September 9-11, 2016
The best time to be at Oz is during autumn. You can check out artifacts from the movie set, meet characters and ride the chairlift and see panoramic views. This event is truly spectacular for Dorothy and Oz fans everywhere and always sells out.
The Wilkesboro Shine to Wine Festival – September 17, 2016
This one celebrates Wilkes County’s finest cocktails and mixes as well as the area’s history in the moonshine trade during Prohibition. Festival goers can taste and sample moonshine, beer, wine and event coffee at this year’s event. History lovers can catch a glimpse of vintage moonshine running cars and historic stills.
Arts on the Mountain in West Jefferson – September 24, 2016
Over 30 artists will set up at the grounds of the Ashe Arts Center for festival goers who want to catch a chance at grabbing some nice folk art and craft pieces. Fine art will also be showcased.
Todd New River Festival – October 8, 2016
This event takes place at Cook Memorial Park in Todd, North Carolina along the banks of the New River. Live music, storytelling, arts and crafts, face painting, and other fun kids activities are all on the schedule.
Boone NC Heritage Festival – October 9, 2016
Check out the Heritage Festival at the Hickory Ridge Museum for a fun historical lesson. You can learn more about the Revolutionary War and Colonial time periods, listen to storytellers and take part in fun activities like axe throwing, or learn more about cooking squirrel.
Woolly Worm Festival – October 15-16, 2016
A festival that celebrates all things that we love about the High Country in the fall and has a cute little fuzzy worm mascot, what more do you want? That’s exactly what the Woolly Worm Festival is about. This annual event takes place over the one of the best leaf viewing weekends in the High Country, and draws thousands of visitors each year.
The Valle Country Fair in Valle Crucis Park – October 16, 2016
Head over to the Valle Country Fair if you want to score some delightful homemade goodies and neat craft items. This event takes place at the Valle Crucis Community Park in the historic community that is home to the original Mast General Store.
