Fall is the perfect time to visit the mountains. There are many spots near The Lovill House Inn that offer the opportunity to view the colors on the trees. You wouldn’t believe the sights you can see if you are willing to make a little drive or a short hike up. Here are some of the Lovill House Inn picks for best places to view colors in and around Boone.
One of the major attractions to Boone and the High Country is the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are several spots along the parkway we recommend visiting for the best fall foliage views around. The first is the Moses Cone Manor, located at Mile Post 294 on the Parkway. The manor is a short drive from either parkway entrance near Blowing Rock and signs make it easy to find. The manor is handicap accessible and is a great trip for families. The view over the mountains from the front steps of the Moses Cone Manor is unforgettable.
Just up the road from the Moses Cone Manor, at MP 296.5, you will find a large picnic area. This is part of the Julian Price Memorial Park and hides one of the most well known trails in the area. The Hebron Rock Colony Falls are fantastic for getting immersed in nature. This is the perfect opportunity to take the kids to see smaller waterfalls and be surrounded by the bright reds and oranges of October in the mountains.
Another popular spot to view the mountains is the overlook at Rough Ridge. A short drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway from Moses Cone Manor and Hebron Colony at MP 302.8, this location is great for those who love to be outdoors but don’t want to hike miles and miles for a good view. The trail to the overlook is a medium difficulty, but only a fourth of a mile. Once you reach the top, the vibrant colors and top-of-the-world views will take your breath away.
If you’re staying with us at The Lovill House Inn, be sure to ask about more of our favorite spots in and around Boone. You can never go wrong as long as you’re in the mountains, but check out those spots along the parkway for a nice little family day trip.
