The Lovill House Inn is widely regarded by visitors as the best of Boone accommodations. Located less than a mile from downtown Boone, we consider ourselves in the middle of all the action in the High Country. We are close to the Appalachian State Campus, downtown Boone, and a short drive to Valle Crucis, Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock. With so much at our door step it’s hard to pick from the things to do when on vacation, but here are some recommendations.
We could spend an entire day looking through the Mast General Store. There are two locations near the Lovill House Inn, one in Valle Crucis, NC, about fifteen minutes down the road, or one in downtown Boone right on King Street. The location in Valle Crucis is the original, formerly the Taylor General Store until W.W. Mast bought half interest to the store, and eventually took over the business. The Mast General Store carried everything their neighbors needed, leading to the popular saying “If you can’t buy it here, you don’t need it.” The Masts and Taylors had a large part making Valle Crucis today, and the Mast General Store has expanded to several locations. Be sure to visit one, or both, of the locations while you’re in town.
Another one of our favorite pass times is a trip along the Boone Area Wine Trail. This “trail” features a trip through Watauga and Avery Counties in a large circle that soaks in scenery and stops at the High Country’s most notable wineries. Each of these unique wineries has a beautiful view, tasty wines, and fruit and cheese plates to snack on throughout the day. Wineries include the Grandfather Vineyard, Banner Elk Winery, and Linville Falls Winery. We can’t possibly list all the things to do in the area near our Boone accommodations, so be sure to visit the Lovill House Inn and experience all the High Country has to offer.
