Story by Lauren Wellbank

As people everywhere begin planning their spring and summer getaways, a historic inn located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains deserves a second look. That's because North Carolina's Lovill House Inn has just about everything you could want in a summer vacation spot, including a price that can't be beat.

You'd think that an inn that has been around since 1875 and features the historic charm and beauty you'd expect from a place like this would set you back a pretty penny, but the bed and breakfast offers a luxury experience at a more middle-of-the-road price. Curious about the inn? Keep reading as I explain why I'm daydreaming about booking this spot for my family this summer.

Lovill House Inn is Great for Vacations and Events

Nestled on 11 acres in Boone, North Carolina, the Lovill House Inn was built in 1875. The house served as the location where the Appalachian State University drafted its state charter, and it was the place students of the school later called home, according to the inn's website.

These days, the inn serves as a luxury bed and breakfast, featuring six suites, a two-bedroom cabin, and a historic barn lined with gardens and flowers that will both delight and inspire. Some of the amenities guests here can expect to experience include:

  • Organic breakfast

  • Covered parking

  • Solar power, which helps keep the lights on during outages

  • Hiking trails that run along streams and lead to a waterfall

  • Free Wifi

  • In-room massages

Quiet getaways not your thing? Despite the secluded nature of the property, it's located within walking distance to Boone's downtown, which has everything from a farmers market to an art gallery. It looks like the inn has perks year-round as well, since the region offers plenty of fun activities during warm and cool seasons. Snow lovers can ski and snowboard the Blue Ridge Mountains during the winter, while warm-weather fans can hike the nearby trails and take in some of the local color while walking around town when the weather gets warmer.

The Lovill House Inn's Packages are Reasonably Priced

Considering staying here? Booking can be done online, and prices will vary depending on how long you plan to stay. For example, a Monday through Friday booking for two guests in the Bristol Suite during the first week of April is only priced at $239 per night on the website. Need less space? The Lenoir Suite is only $199 per night for that same time period, but still grants you many of the same awesome views and amenities.

Speaking of amenities, the inn has plenty of add-ons for guests who want to really lean into the luxe Southern vibes of the historic inn, and you can choose from a few extras if you want to make the most of your stay, including:

  • Locally sourced charcuterie boards

  • Winter cheer, which involves seasonal goodies to be enjoyed by the fireplace

  • In-room massages (solo options and couples versions are both available)

  • Birthday packages

  • In-room blooms

Listen, I was sold when I saw how much there is to do when you stay at this inn that doesn't even involve having to leave the property (seriously, check out those hiking trails and that waterfall), which makes it an affordable option.

Add to it the fact that you can book a stay here for what you'd pay for a single room with a hotel chain that lacks character or charm, and it makes total sense why the inn remains super popular in the region.
